Gynning och konsten

Carolina grew up in a creative environment with her mother, Agneta Gynning, who is an established artist. Creativity was an ever-present factor, and her first exhibition came when she was just 15 – a joint one with her mother – at which all of her paintings were sold.
Choosing the Art and Design study programme at upper secondary school was a given. After winning Sweden’s Big Brother 2004, and attracting an incredible amount of media attention, she needed to recover and took a time-out on her beloved island of Ibiza. Her summer-long stay there yielded the 20 paintings that would form the basis of her first individual exhibition, EGO, at Galleri Rönnquist & Rönnquist in Malmö. This first exhibition was followed by ‘CHICK WITH GUNS‘ at Galleri Gummesson in Stockholm.

Both exhibitions attracted a high visitor count and a lot of attention, and resulted in two further exhibitions, ‘UTLÅNAD‘ [On Loan] and ‘KVINNAN OCH KÄRLEKEN‘ [Woman and Love], both held at Galleri Rönnquist & Rönnquist in Malmö.

Carolina has always believed it was important to go her own way, not to be restricted by fixed ideas of the proper way to do things. Which is precisely why she has always loved provoking the establishment in a variety of ways.
After attracting criticism for her large silicon breast implants, she decided to have them removed and turn the process into art. She contacted her friend, the photographer, Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin, and allowed her to document the surgery pictographically. The resulting images were the second most popular news item on the Internet in Sweden in 2007.
